As told to the Wendy Wu Tours Team, Cameron shares his experience on the China Experience tour, reflecting on his first impressions, standout moments, cultural highlights and personal insights from travelling through China on a fully inclusive guided tour.
I found the mixture of modern day innovation and history to be intriguing. I had to go!
A China Experience – Starting in Shanghai was great, a big modern city. It felt very safe, clean and extremely organised. I really enjoy just wandering the streets and exploring the local area, the scale of the city is huge. And unlike the common misconception, it's not polluted like everyone says.
The Terracotta Warriors for me. It's hard to grasp the size of it all until you are there.
Beijing – I was told it was a bit boring and all just about history. This is NOT true. The people there were so friendly and we had some of the best food when we were there!
The Chinese Acrobat show in Beijing was quite special. I really enjoy it.
The dumpling feast in Xian was the best – all the food on tour was great, however.
For me, it was standing on top of the Great Wall looking at the passage wrap around the mountain, it was quite the sight to see!
Everything is taken care of for you. You can completely relax in a country you don’t know. Food and touring all taken care of for you. All you have to do is wake up on time!
They are so handy as they are there to explain everything and act on your behalf in situations where you wouldn’t know how to navigate. The Local guides are a great touch as they have the in depth knowledge of each city.
It has to be Terracotta Warriors!
It eases your mind and allows you to focus on the wonderful sights and places to see. It was my first time to China and I didn’t know how to navigate things either. It was all taken care of for me!
How friendly the people were. They were all very helpful and willing to communicate with me with Google Translate if needed!
Don’t be alarmed when local people ask you for photos!
Get an eSIM! It unlocks all your apps. Also downloading Alipay before you travel as it is so easy and handy to make payments once set up.
Buy a power bank once you're in China. It needs to be CCC-certified, otherwise it may be confiscated at the airport.
Ancient, ambitious and futuristic.
Definitely Zhangjiajie next time.
